  Smart Microgrids (SMGs) offer a promising cost effective solution to the integration of renewable energy with reduced losses, lower transmission and distribution costs, higher energy efficiency, and a number of environmental and economic benefits. However, several key technical and economic issues need to be addressed before large-scale integration of distributed energy resource (DER) units in the form of SMGs can be made viable for the future energy needs of Australia. Small-scale wind-, PV- and fuel cell-based plants are often connected to low- and medium-voltage (LV and MV respectively) distribution grids in rural areas, which introduce new challenges and opportunities for the expansion of distribution grids.

The SMG technology requires external control for its integration in a system, as different utilities follow different standards, modifications of its control strategy are required. This project will develop a technology which will provide a total utility solution rather than simply a single standalone device. It will include energy storage with the d-Statcom inverter combined with the Power IQ’s existing management software. This software will be updated to integrate it with robust supervisory control developed by research tram from Griffith University and data acquisition (SCADA) which can be located at a utility’s demand management system (DMS) for centralised peak-load shedding and other VAR-related control, for example, V2G system. This project will also integrate a SiC MOSFET bi-directional DC/DC converter and DC/AC inverter (with an embedded d-Statcom) with a V2G charging system tested on SMG already built at Griffith University.

Prof. Junwei Lu是自动化工程学院聘任的首位“海外名师”,也是世界上仅有几位横跨高频和低频计算电磁场领域的专家,多次代表澳大利亚出席及担任世界级计算电磁场大会的代表和理事,如参加IEEE CEFC及COMPUMAG会议等。由于在计算电磁场领域的特殊贡献,2004-2007年,2008-2011年以及2014-2017年3次当选为国际COMPUMAG学会的亚太地区理事。目前就职于澳大利亚Griffith University工程学院,电气及电子工程学科终身首席教授,博导,高性能计算及可视化研究室主任,电力电子及磁技术研究室主任,新能源及智能电网研究室主任。专业资格包括IEEE高级会员,电力电子分会、微波理论与技术分会终身会员,天线与波动分会、电磁兼容分会、电力与能源分会会员,以及国际计算电磁学学会(ICS)理事等,已发表250余篇学术论文,为IEEE、IET和其他专业组织评阅了众多学术论文。
