Light harvesting polymers are macromolecules that contain many individual chromophore units that interact via weak dipole-dipole (F?rster) or exchange (Dexter) interactions.  These polychromophores feature macromolecular molar absorptivity (> 106 M-1cm-1), and they are able to efficiently absorb visible photons and transport excitations over nanometer distances.  Mechanisms and timescales for energy transport in light harvesting polymers are of interest, as well as their use at semiconductor interfaces to transport excitations and charge, and facilitate light-induced charge separation.  Structurally well-defined polychromophores are constructed using controlled radical polymerization to afford side-group functional polystyrenes; chromophoric units are grafted to the backbone using high efficiency azide-alkyne click reactions.  Excitation transport and charge transfer at semiconductor interfaces are investigated by using ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopy. Photoelectrochemical studies provide insight regarding the efficiency by which the polymers undergo charge separation at the polymer/TiO2 interface.

Kirk S. Schanze博士,现任美国弗罗里达大学校聘杰出教授,国际著名杂志ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces(SCI一区)主编,曾担任国际著名杂志Langmuir等杂志高级编辑。主要研究领域为能源材料,化学材料等。目前共发表SCI论文280余篇,论文被引用次数超过11000次,H指数为高达60。过去五年中培养博士生19人,博士后10人。
